3 Songs: On Repeat

Angel Olsen – “Shut Up Kiss Me” (For her epic new album, My Woman, out today on Jagjaguwar, Olsen experiments with adding synth, dream-pop and glittery grunge textures to her retro-minded folk-leaning indie rock sound on the more upbeat A-side and delivers more introspective and expansive tunes on the B-side - with her incredible voice and evocative lyrics ever in the spotlight for her best album yet.)

The Album Leaf – “New Soul” (After a six year wait, innovative veteran sound-sculptor Jimmy LaValle returns with a new Album Leaf album titled, Between Waves, out now on Relapse Records.  His dynamic yet minimalist electro-rock is atmospherically cinematic and the new album – the first to be written and recorded as a full band – has more of an organic vibe and features new twists such as the highly-melodic trip-hop inspired standout single heard here; resulting in his most cohesive and inventive album yet.)

Dinosaur Jr. – “Goin’ Down” (Since reuniting over ten years ago, the legendary trio of J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph have now been together for longer now than any other period during their career that stretches back over 30 years.  Via Jagjaguwar, they recently released a new album, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not and it is chock full of everything that Dinosaur Jr most definitely is with J’s distinct drawl and blazing guitar solos and their crunchy, catchy punk-informed alt. rock on full display.)
