Review: Shipwreck - "Rabbit In The Kitchen With A New Dress On"

Shipwreck's latest release, "Rabbit In The Kitchen With A New Dress On" has a long title. That is certain, but the catchy indie-pop/shoegaze sounds do not take long to get inside your head and stay there. For their 2nd full-length they have signed with Polyvinyl Records sister label, None Records. Erin Fein from the Headlights provides some vocals as well. With a tight rhythm section and angular guitars, this cd will excite fans of Interpol, Echo & the Bunnymen, U2, and The Killers.
Standout tracks: "Backbone" and "Rabbit In The Kitchen"

Check out and for more info.

Win the new Division Day cd from Atlas and the Anchor!

Division Day's latest release, "Beartrap Island" is like The Nationals' latest, in that it is a grower. It was released last October and was all over the blogs before that. But it took me a while to get into it. Now I appreciate all of the textures and layers of the keyboard and the polish of the vocals. I can't escape the melodies in the songs: "Tigers", "Ricky", and "Lights Out". To me, they sound like a darker Duran Duran, with some Joy Division and Anberlin mixed in. Check out their songs at their Virb or Myspace page and if you like them, come back and comment on my page and leave your email address and I will send one winner (or maybe 2, depending on the response) a copy of "Beartrap Island". It's that easy!

Website of the Week

Amiestreet is a new service for finding and downloading music, like eMusic or iTunes.
The difference is that each song starts out free. That's right, FREE! Then as the song gains in popularity, the price goes up to a max of 98 cents. They want to start a community for music fans to download and discuss songs. One way to do that is to make a recommendation of a song for the Amiestreet public to read, and if they buy the song, and if the price increases, you are rewarded that in credit to buy more songs. And all of the mp3s are compatible with iPod and are DRM free. So it's pretty much great all around!
Last week they added over 15,000 songs from labels like Matador and Polyvinyl. I think you can get the new Stephen Malkmus and Cat Power albums each for under 10 bucks!

ps: leave your email address in the comment section and I will email you with and invite so you can start out with $5.00 in credit for free!

Today. It is good.

So, I guess I am the living definition of procrastination. I started this blog in '06 and this is only the 2nd post.
Well, I am going to do it this time! I will be reviewing and recommending different bands, websites and interesting things.
(thanks to Jackson for the name...which I lifted from a conversation)
